In the North Coyote Buttes area of the Paria Wilderness on the Arizona-Utah border, well over 30 miles from the nearest camp or civilization, there lies this unusual rocky outcropping where in antiquity molten lava cooled in a distinctive pattern reminiscent of the impression of the human brain. Threaded through this formation are waves of vermilion which appear to end with the punctuation of this lone sentinel rock.
