| Abraham's Answer: Adonai - jireh
[428AT, Leica R8, 28-70 mm Vario-Elmar, 24 sec, f/5.6, Fuji Velvia, 10/99]
Abraham's answer to his dilemma of sacrificing his son, Isaac, came as a ram whose horns were ensnared in the branches of a bush. Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked and behold behind him a ram caught in the thicket by his horns... And Abraham called the name of that place "Adonai-jireh; as it is said to this day 'In the mount where the Lord is seen'." The site of this image is an ethereal cavern where time and nature converge in an awesome spectacle of light. Upper Antelope Canyon, Arizona as a narrow, underground slot carved out over eons by the Colorado River. Here overhead light bursts into life, sending color rippling and glowing along the red sandstone, as stripes and crescents and columns shadow-dance the walls. |
